A reflection on 2021

As our dynamic President Helen Mackinlay continues to make a
steady recovery from a recent medical procedure, Vice President Scott Landells, reflects on 2021 and some exciting plans and events coming up in 2022.

My first term on the Arts Rutherglen Committee has been a very enjoyable and rewarding experience.  I am humbled and excited to be able to bring you this update.

Despite continuing disruptions and impacts of the COVID pandemic, Arts Rutherglen has been very active progressing several projects in 2021.

 These include:

  • the Tommy McRae Tribute on Lake King. Stay tuned for more news regarding this work and events at the site in 2022.

  •  adding two new public artworks to our Portals into Rutherglen projects.  Including Symbols of practice   and as recently as last week – the completion of the  A Splash of Summer mural  by Ronan Holdsworth at the Rutherglen Swimming pool. Take a look at some photos by the artists on our Facebook and Instagram sites. This portal also features “Bill’s Bench” in honour of the late Bill Meagher.

  • The Rutherglen Tastes Of Art Prize was another great success this year and our 2022 event is shaping up well – with an increased prize pool and continuing support from local businesses, individuals and organisations.  Artists, we’d love to see your artwork in the exhibition- get your entries in. Details here.

  •  Our International Women’s Day  brunch  this year featured guest speaker Genevieve O’Reilly- Arts Rutherglen’s founding president and currently Principal of Borinya Wangaratta Community Partnership. Stay tuned on our website, Facebook and Instagram accounts for more about the the 2022 event.

  •  Complementary to the upcoming Rutherglen Busking Festival in 2022 we have been researching and planning for more Music events at various venues including the Convent . Watch this space for some big announcements in early 2022 – Save  the  date of the weekend 13-15 May 2022.

  • We enjoyed a couple of get togethers for our regular Season of Fine Films. Unfortunately a couple  a few were cancelled due to pandemic restrictions and things – we’re looking forward to resuming these over the cooler months in 2022

  • We’re working on returning our Literary Events in 2022

We have some very talented and inspiring people living in Rutherglen!  We are keen for you to add your voice,  ideas and get involved in shaping arts and culture events and opportunities in Rutherglen.  Please get in touch via our contact page.
