A Standout Year for the 2026 Tastes of Art Prize

In its ninth year, this jewel of an Art Prize in Rutherglen has once again exceeded all expectations. The wonderful variety of works and styles is one of the reasons this exhibition has become a favourite in North East Victoria, and this year we were thrilled to receive an impressive 502 entries.

From the social and vibrant Gala Opening with 350 people in attendance, to the constant stream of eager visitors and tourists through the doors, the 2026 Tastes of Art Prize has been our most successful event yet.

Our judges, Kirrily Anderson and Natalia Ord, praised the artworks for being fresh, diverse, contemporary, and of an exceptionally high standard. Visitors were treated to a feast of rural and urban landscapes, portraits, animals, florals, evocative photography, and striking abstract works. It was especially pleasing to see young and first time artists exhibiting alongside long standing contributors, enriching the diversity and breadth of the show.

The excellence of the works was reflected in a record 82 sales, with pieces heading off to new homes to showcase the imagination and talent of our creatives. The Committee was also delighted by the strong participation from Melbourne and Mildura artists, many of whom made use of the free transport generously provided by Corowa Furnishings & Floors.

A standout feature this year was the substantial increase in quirky, character filled sculptures displayed throughout both galleries of Memorial Hall – many destined to become delightful garden art.

Our student artists shone brightly, producing outstanding works that the judges described as freer, more adventurous, and equal in standard to the adult entries. Thanks to sponsorship from Indigo Shire and Rutherglen Rotary, six Youth Awards totalling $1,300 were presented to encourage these emerging artists to continue pursuing their passion.

Congratulations to all the artists – your talent and creativity made this year’s exhibition truly exceptional. To view all the winning artworks, please visit our Facebook page @ArtsRutherglen or our website www.artsrutherglen.com.au.

Arts Rutherglen is proud to bring the arts to town at this beautiful autumn time of year, offering visitors a rich experience of food, wine, and inspiring creativity.

A dedicated group of volunteers returns each year to keep this event thriving, and planning for the 10th Tastes of Art Prize – with a few surprises in store will begin very soon.

A heartfelt thank you to all our sponsors, our supportive community, and of course, the artists themselves.

2027 will be big.
