Havea will feature songs from his acclaimed 2020 album Ki ‘a Lavaka which explored his Tongan heritage as well as songs from across his career including recent single “Feels Like July”.
Havea has spent the past 12 years based in Hamburg, Germany with occasional return visits to Australia and his family home in North-East Victoria.
Arts Rutherglen’s Scott Landells said that volunteer-run Arts Group are excited to have the opportunity to host this show. “At Arts Rutherglen we have an exciting 2023 program of original storytelling, songwriting and performing and Joel is a great exponent of the genre. He is a warm, charismatic performer with an impressive repertoire of songs across several albums as a solo artist and also with his German based band. Joel also has strong ties to north-east Victoria having grown up here, so it’s a great honour to be able to present these shows”, Landells said.
Havea will perform at Rutherglen Convent from 4-5:30pm with support from 12yo Staghorn Flat country music singer-songwriter and performer Jack Gregory, who wowed audiences at the 2022 Busking Rutherglen event.
