Eric Nash is an arts professional with qualifications in Visual Art (Majoring in Painting), Arts Administration, and Management, and a wealth of experience in the gallery sector.

Appointed in 2019 to lead the Benalla Art Gallery – a cultural and architectural icon of northeast Victoria since it opened in 1975, with a significant Collection spanning three centuries of Australian art – Eric was previously the General Manager for the country’s leading lens-based media gallery, the Centre for Contemporary Photography. Eric has also developed training programs for Victorian galleries’ peak body, the Public Galleries Association of Victoria. He is experienced in working in public galleries in a regional context, having worked for Perc Tucker Regional Gallery and Pinnacles Gallery in Townsville for nine years, including as Curator from 2013 to 2016. Eric is currently a member of the NETS Victoria Artistic Program Advisory Committee.

Nancy Sluga

Arts Rutherglen is delighted to introduce photographer Nancy Sluga who will judge the Photography section in the Tastes of Art Prize 2027.

Nancy has been taking photos ever since her father took her to Foto Supplies in Albury as a teenager and bought her a Kodak Instamatic. Nancy undertook formal photography studies at TAFE and Charles Sturt University. Her study in black and white darkroom photography led to a love of its simple power. Her darkroom is now ‘digital’, but her processes are the same – it’s about shadows, highlights, midtones and colour balance.

Nancy loves nature and she can lose hours in observation. When a magpie sings to her, life is paused! Travel photography is her other passion, and she finds bliss venturing out with her camera. She seeks solitude when capturing her images and likes to absorb a location over repeated visits. This is how details reveal themselves, like an awakening.

Nancy and her artist husband Charles Sluga, have operated Sluga Gallery in the historic Anthenaeum building in Yackandandah for 14 years. You can view Nancy’s work at the gallery and on the website www.slugagallery.com
