More about Liz
Liz is a proud Yankunytjatjara woman. Her Grandmothers people come from the remote north west desert region of South Australia. Liz was born in the era of assimilation in Oodnadatta, one thousand kms north west of Adelaide, on Arabana country.
A year after completing her eduction in Adelaide she went to Melbourne for a long weekend which lasted 46 years.
Liz commenced working life in a clothing factory before entering the Commonwealth Public Service, initially in Personnel and then as an Aboriginal Liaison Officer with the Department of Social Security.
She and her husband Dave raised 4 children and following a stint as a stay-at-home mum, Liz began working in the Population Health team at Merri Health in Coburg, as the Koorie Community Engagement Officer, a position she held for 13 years.
She has also served on the Merri Bek Council First Nations Advisory Committee since 2011 and was awarded the Lisa Bellear Award for Contribution to Reconciliation Activities in 2022.
Liz, Dave and their daughter made the tree change to Rutherglen in 2023.
